What we build
Framing, decks and ramps for homes across Hants and Colchester
Rough framing is the skeleton of a building: the floor system, the walls, the roof, and the sheathing that ties it all together. Here is the work Action Framing takes on, and what is included when we quote it.
-
Full framing packages from the sill plate up. Floor systems, exterior and interior walls, roof trusses or stick-built rafters, and the wall and roof sheathing that ties it together. We frame from your drawings or your builder's and hand the building over dried in, ready for windows and roofing.
-
Single and double garages, tall shops with headroom for a hoist, and storage sheds. Recent builds include a 16 by 20 in Bible Hill and a 12 foot tall garage in Maitland. Slab or pier, gable or shed roof, framed to the plan you already have or one we help you settle on.
-
Lakeside and woodlot builds where the road in matters as much as the drawings. Full basements, cathedral ceilings over open kitchen and living areas, and framing sized for a building that sits empty through part of the year. We have framed through the Musquodoboit Valley and around Cook's Brook.
-
Multi-level decks, wrapping stairs, covered porches and cedar pergolas. Pressure treated or cedar, with framing, stairs and railings built to code and detailed to shed water rather than hold it.
-
Ramps with a proper run, landings sized to let a wheelchair turn, and handrails on both sides. These go up quickly compared with most of what we do. If someone is coming home from hospital and the timeline is tight, say so on the phone and we will work around it.
-
Shed and eyebrow dormers cut into existing roofs, gable extensions and structural roof changes. Opening a finished roof means planning around the weather, so we tarp, cut, frame and dry in within the same window.
-
Turning an unfinished basement into rooms, and interior framing for renovations upstairs. Partition walls, headers where you want a wall gone, plus the strapping and blocking that the electrician, plumber and drywaller will thank you for later.
Recent work
Recent builds in Bible Hill, Truro, Maitland and Cook's Brook
A framing job gets judged twice: from the road, and again by whoever hangs drywall on it. These are jobsites from the last two seasons.
How it runs
How a framing job runs, from the first call to the final walkthrough
Four steps, and you know the price before anything is ordered.

01
Call or text with what you have
Drawings, a sketch on graph paper, or a photo of the lot. Aron will ask about size, timeline, and whether the foundation is in. Five minutes on the phone usually settles whether this is a fit.
-
02
A written quote, free
You get the framing package priced in writing, with what is included and what is not spelled out before a stick of lumber gets ordered. No charge for the quote and no follow-up pressure after it.
-
03
Your dates get booked
Spring and summer slots fill months ahead. Once you accept, your window is held. Winter is a working season here, so a February start is a real option rather than a favour.
-
04
Frame, sheathe, walk it through
Floor system, walls, roof, sheathing. When the building is dried in we walk it with you and your builder, and the site gets swept before the trailer leaves the yard.
Why Action Framing
Why builders and homeowners across East Hants keep calling back
Aron grew up right here in Nova Scotia, raised on his father's farm from the age of five. He has been framing since 1996, started Action Framing in 2014, and has worked out of Maitland since the summer of 2024. The work has run from a storage shed in Hortonville to a duplex in Truro to a lakeside cottage at Cook's Brook.
Framing is the one trade nobody sees again once the drywall goes on. That is exactly why it has to be square, plumb and on layout the first time.
- 01Framing since 1996. Aron started Action Framing in 2014 and runs it out of Maitland.
- 02Aron works on site. The person who quotes your job is the person framing it.
- 03Winter is a working season. Snow shifts a schedule by a day and the work carries on.
- 04Free written quotes. Priced in writing, and Aron answers his own phone.

Questions
Questions homeowners ask before booking a framing crew
What does rough framing actually include?
The structure of the building and nothing decorative. On a typical house that means the floor system, exterior and interior walls, beams and headers, roof trusses or stick-built rafters, and the wall and roof sheathing. We hand the building over dried in, at which point windows, roofing, siding and the interior trades take it from there.
What is and is not in your package gets written into the quote, so there is no argument about it later.
Do you supply the lumber, or do I?
In most cases the homeowner supplies the lumber. Aron can still handle the takeoff and ordering if needed. Many clients prefer to purchase their own package from a local yard and simply have us frame it. For smaller projects, Action Framing is happy to supply the material as well — just let us know which option you prefer on the first call and we’ll build the quote accordingly.
How far do you travel from Maitland?
Most of the work sits inside an hour: Truro, Bible Hill, Stewiacke, Shubenacadie, Elmsdale, Enfield, the Musquodoboit Valley, Windsor and up through Colchester County. We have framed as far out as Hortonville in the Annapolis Valley. For some builds the radius stretches, so ask rather than assume.
Do you really frame through a Nova Scotia winter?
Yes. Houses have gone up here in February with snow on the deck. Cold slows a day down and heavy weather can push a start, but winter framing is normal work rather than an exception. Booking a winter slot is often the fastest way to get into a build, because most people wait for spring and spring fills up.
How far ahead should I book?
For a spring or summer start, several months. Those slots go early. Smaller jobs like a deck, a shed or a ramp can often be fitted in sooner. The honest answer depends on what is already on the calendar, so call and ask for the first available window.
Will you work from my own drawings?
Yes, and from your builder's or designer's as well. Text a photo of the plans or email a PDF to actionframing.ns@gmail.com and you will get a straight answer about whether the framing as drawn is going to give anyone trouble on site.
Do you take on decks and ramps as standalone jobs?
Yes. Decks, porches, pergolas, storage sheds and wheelchair ramps are regular work, not filler between house builds. Accessibility ramps in particular tend to be urgent, so flag the timeline when you call.
Do I need a building permit?
For most new structures in East Hants or Colchester County, yes, and the permit is taken out by the property owner or the general contractor rather than by the framers. Your municipal building department will tell you exactly what your project needs. We can tell you what they usually want to see on the drawings.
